WOW!! Great little report Dan!! Some Goregeous pics of both scenery and fish!!!! Truly AWESOME!!!! It is a goal that I will make it west for some serious fishing sometime in my life!!!! It actually kinda sucks, I make it to Alberta frequently enough but it’s always at the worst of times!!! Case in point I leave for Calgary tomorrow morning for a couple weeks. Now where did I put those long johns! LOL!!!

Nice report, DanJ, thanks for the read. IMHO, your best yet. Keep ’em coming, we’ve still got a long way to go back here in Ontario.

    cheers,

Just keep your eyes on the temperature – if a chinook blows in you’ll have a shot at some great fishing on the Bow river…

It was definitely more work :) As with most things requiring work it’s just getting started that’s hard…

Love the report DanJ. One obviously needs to be in good physical condition to fish those alpine lakes. Loopy will be heading out west this summer for a family-type gathering. Included in the trip will be a few days to go fishing. In the meantime, the Loopster had better make like a hamster (on the treadmill). Enjoyed your story and pictures very much!

Actually, on the second day we were half way up and heard a helicopter in the area… We felt concerned that we might not be first to the lake that day. Wouldn’t have been an issue – but the thought that someone would take the easy way up made us slightly jealous that we weren’t independently wealthy… :)

So yes – there are opportunities to take a chopper!

Well there are a lot of similarities between gar fishing and alpine lake action… 8wts, monster streamers, screaming drags, prehistoric looking creatures… maybe not…

Sorry to say but if that was K country or banff (i have an idea which one it was 😉 ) . No helicopter are to land for recreational purpose’s, everyone has to earn it unless it is at a heliport.

Sorry to say but I suspect your intimate knowledge of the area may have put your guess a bit off by about 20km or 400km (i have an idea which one it was :) ).

For what it’s worth, the last time I landed my chopper at a Banff lake I cited religious reasons. I mean since when was fly fishing recreational?

    Hey Dan!
Have you been to a fishing area near Castle ski resort? Bit of a hike and three lakes….

I’ve done a fair amount of fishing down in that area – but mostly in the moving water category. I’m hoping to do some trips down there this year though. I hardly get around to fishing stillwater locations… There are a lot of great opportunities down there though.

Castle Ski area – I love that place. Some epic snowboarding conditions can be found… :)
