Connections-Leader To Flyline

Having my braided loop recently getting stuck in my tip top while fighting a fish has reminded me why I have changed over most of my line to leader connections to the Caucci(sp) loop. This connection glides through the guides much easier than a braided loop and doesn’t retain water causing a sink tip like effect.

Instructions:
Soak the first 1/4 inch of your flyline in nailpolish remover solution for 35-45 seconds and then strip off the flyline finish with fingernail exposing the braided core.Insert a pin up the core into the flyline approx 1/4 inch creating a hollow.Let it remain for a couple of seconds, remove pin.
Get 6-12 inches of favourite leader butt material and tie a perfection loop on one end.(I cheat..cut off 8 inches of orvis leader with loop already tied) and cut the other end at a 45 degree angle.Insert the end with the 45 degree cut up into the braided core and into the actual flyline as far as you can.
Place a drop of crazy glue on a piece of cardboard etc. and roll the exposed braid/mono section covering as much of the braids surface area as possible. Let dry….Test by pulling on loop.
If you want you can then cover with some type of epoxy to further waterproof the connection but I have yet to try this myself.I use this connection on all my light line outfits(4 WT and under) and have yet to have one fail.Largest fish to date on such a connection was 22 incher and evferything held.
